Lacrimas Profundere: Songs for the last view

18/07/08  ||  Euthanatos

So here I was, minding my own shit, when the new album from Lacrimas Profundere fell into my lap. I had heard of the band before, after all they’ve been around for more than ten years, but I can’t remember actually listening to them, and if I did, I simply did not give a fuck. Apparently the band used to be Doom Metal with female vocals and turned gay, you know, like Theater of Tragedy and so many others. Apparently, also, their founding member, spiritual leader and ultimate master, who was also the vocalist, left the band in 2007, so this is the first album with new vocalist Rob Vitacca. I have no idea what the former bloke sounded like, but Rob’s vocals are really good, kind of a cross between Fernando Ribeiro and Andrew Eldritch.

So what does Lacrimas Profundere offer us after all? It’s well crafted goth metal, with catchy hooks, decent production and layered melodies. While there are some outstanding riffs and the keyboards are fucking taste, it’s the vocals that really carry the load here, and I guess this is even more evident for fans of the band who were used to Christopher Schmid. Vitacca is pretty versatile and I like his deep tone. There’s also some cum bucket singing backing vocals here, but there is no mention to her whatsoever, anywhere, so I can’t tell you who it is. She sings pretty good too, though. Apart from another useless intro, there wasn’t really any song I didn’t like on “Songs for the last view”. Naturally I can only recommend this to you if you’re into stuff like recent Moonspell, Sisters of Mercy, Sentenced, Charon and even H.I.M. (although this is a bit heavier). If not, you’ll just think this is gay and be scared to death of listening to it lest you catch aids. Your call.

If you’re depressed or you want to spice up your sex life with your gothic rock chick, this is the perfect soundtrack for that. It’s neatly packaged and totally unpretentious.

The cover: Great picture of a desolate place, kinda like a cross between a junkyard and the apocalypse. Sweet.

7 gothic chicks with tight leather pants yummy out of 10.
